A couple of years back, my Balcony Girls and I met for an afternoon full of excitement and anticipation as we came together to learn a lesson on gratitude.
Gratitude: A feeling of being grateful or thankful. It comes from being content and it comes from our hearts.
Balcony Girls is a group of girls I meet with to discuss relationships. Girl relationships. How to build one another up. And the lesson this day may seem like a simple task, but to a young girl, learning how to write a thank you note ties in well with a thankful heart.
Keeping gratitude in mind, how do you pen your thoughts to someone, thanking them for a kind act or a gift?
My friend, who did the lesson with me on this day, read from an old etiquette book examples of how, many years ago, people would write long thank you notes, which were quite detailed.

This is something that bears repeating … and repeating. I have preschoolers and am working to teach them about gratitude, but it is so hard to focus on anything, but what they want that they see! And when I get frustrated that they don’t see the abundance around them, God gently points out what I am missing around me. “Yet he was merciful; he forgave their iniquities.”
And I’m so excited to be reading the Balcony Girls – I have two daughters (4 and 2) and am definitely going to do something like this when they get older. We have a gazebo – Gazebo Girls is taking shape in my mind!

What a great share! Lessons in gratitude can never start too early in life. I have been listening to stories on the radio and reading about gratitude all month. Some times I think the youngest set grabs onto the concept more easily than some of their elders … and puts it into practice more consistently once they understand it.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us!
Happy Thanksgiving!

This is a great share! Something we should do year-round… not just when holidays start!

I’m so glad you are teaching thank-you note writing. My mom was very diligent with my sister and I but it seems to be a lost art, this being thankful in a written word. Bless you for passing on your thankful heart!
